Creating Songs for Justice!

At Samish Adult Reunion 2024, attendees gathered in groups one evening to write their own songs of justice to the tune of “Jesus Loves Me.” Now you can also sing along with our justice crooners!

Group 1
Written by Roy Baggerly, Karen Anderson, Gil Martell, Connie Guay, Susan Oxley, Tom Webber, Pegi Powers, Sharon Kleigl, and Anne Dobson

Jesus calls for action now.
Your baptism was a vow.
Act for justice in the world,
Bringing peace for boys and girls.

Yes, act for justice.
Yes, live like Jesus.
Yes, act for justice.
Live as Jesus in the world.

Group 2
Written by Bill Campbell, Jane Worlund, Robin Martell, Terry, Susan Webber, Victoria, Marielos, Laura Schmidt

Justice moves me off the spot
makes me more than I am not
marching, shouting, making signs
Spirit guides our hearts and minds

Yes, we need justice. (x3)
cuz Shandra tells us so.

Spirit calls us to respond
bravery, courage and beyond.
We commit to hear God’s call.
There is work for me and all.

Yes, we need justice. (x3)
cuz Ashley tells us so.

Group 2.5
Written by Laura Schlenker and Monster

Honesty and truth and grace
Justice is our happy place
We are sent to welcome you
Safety, love and food for you

Yes, justice for you (x3)
You belong the way you are.

Group 3
Written by Elizabeth Else, Linda Martell, Michael Clark, Rick Hylton, Peg Eagle, Leonard Warnock, Glen Fishel

God is moving everyday
So, to God, together prayer
Now for justice, love and peace
We commit and never cease

Yes, we will listen
Yes, we will serve
Yes, we’ll be open
to God’s loving word
